Happy Birthday to Me

I know you all care what I did for my birthday....so here it is! Yea for iphones that let you capture the (sometimes) mundane acts of your life that come together to make a great day!

Awesome breakfast tacos at this new place in Richardson
(after a stop at my first estate sale to pick up something for Jenni)

Yea for a jewelry place that color codes the sections for shopping idiots like myself :)

If every store in the world closed except this one, I'd be ok :)

iphone accessories!!

I miss this in my little town...it's the simple things that make me happy!

Time for dinner!  At the Ft. Worth location of Tillman's Roadhouse.

A "welcoming" door to a Southern comfort food kind of restaurant!

I just loved this chair!!
My Two Dearest Friends, Jenni & Katie, who share my birthday "week"!
Always happy to celebrate with them!

Popcorn while you wait...and a cool bird just for fun (?)

I promise you this tasted amazing, even though it looks weird.
Pumpkin seed encrusted salmon over root vegetable succatash.
Literally melted in my mouth.

Katie brought us the candles and our accomodating waiter helped us out with the
lighting atop the marshmallows for our s'mores tableside!  YUMMY!!

And yes, you still got to "roast" your marshmallows
(they were flavored maple, peppermint or blackberry!)

Each of us brought a list of the Top 12 events of our year....which made 3 dozen total - how old we are now :)
More on these lists later!
(by the way, Jenni's list is on her phone, mine is in pencil on ACU paper and Katie's is on colored notecards.)

We ended the night watching this fun movie: cute boys and lots of laughs!
All in all it was a most lovely Birthday, sprinkled throughout with Facebook well wishes from people throughout my life and the world and phone calls from dear friends and family.

One girl really shouldn't be this lucky!
On to another year!

p.s. Well, it's a song, right?? :)

What will this day be like? (Ten on Ten)

On the 10th of this month, I had some loose plans to spend the day in the city.  When I remembered it was the 10th, I decided to participate in 10 on 10, but they're all iphone pics, so please excuse some of the quality :)  Here's how my day turned out:

My lunch eaten in the car - if you haven't tried their pizzas, I recommend them!
(Probably not as healthy as the turkey sandwich :)

My normal route into the big D.  This stretch is often not yet crowded,
so I promise it wasn't as dangerous as it could have been....
LOOK at that beautiful blue sky!!

OK, I was stopped here and I can do the camera on my phone in one button.
This vanity plate reminded me of my friend Dara - I love serendipities during the day that bring sweet friends to mind!

First stop - my friend Leah is worth the hour and 45 min drive to get my hair cut!

The 2 years I lived within 10 minutes of this mall proved to be dangerous.
Still a favorite place to return (and "kill" time).

The outlet ALWAYS has something that works for me - even when the normal stores don't!

Notice, I don't show you the total....but I used the coupon they sent me for my birthday month, so the receipt makes it look like I bought myself several birthday gifts!  How fun!

Look closely, this machine takes cash AND CREDIT CARDS!!  I slid my card just because I could - what a Great idea! (How many of us don't always have $1.50 in cash for a drink?)

My friend Jenni has a lovely guest room open for some of my DFW excursions :)

Yummy chicken flautas and an avocado enchilada to begin an evening with Jenni of dinner....

...and a movie!  What a great story of our history to capture.  I don't often remember movie quotes well, but one of the conversations went something like this:
White pilot: "You don't like us to call you 'colored', right? "
Black pilot: "The word is 'NEGRO'.  You call yourself green with envy, red in the face when angry, yellow when you're a coward, blue when you're sad - and you have the nerve to call Us 'colored'!!"

Wonderful!

You see other participants of 10 on 10 here
(I think her goal is to capture the "beauty" in the day -
I more often just capture the events, but it's still a fun idea!)

p.s. Post title song is the opening line of the song Maria sings on her way to meet the von Trapp family in my favorite musical "The Sound of Music".  It's a song I often sing in the morning :)  I also love it because she sings "I have confidence..."
